Why Jeremiah? Why Now?

When I wrote When the Road Narrows, I was thinking about those seasons we all face—the times when our options feel limited, our energy is low, and the path forward seems thin. I think we’ve all stood on those narrow roads, wondering if we’ve taken a wrong turn or if God has moved on without us.

But as I sat with those thoughts, I found myself drawn to a man who lived on the narrowest road of all: the prophet Jeremiah.

Finding the "Table of Grace"

Jeremiah didn't just see a narrow road; he saw his entire world being uprooted. He watched the city he loved crumble and his people led away into exile. If anyone understood what it felt like to be exhausted, misunderstood, and pushed to the brink, it was Jeremiah.

I wrote Thoughts on Jeremiah because I realized that his story isn't just ancient history. It is a mirror for our own lives.

We all have moments where we feel "uprooted." Maybe it’s a change in our health, a shift in our family, or just the quiet realization that the world doesn’t look the way it used to. In this 98-day journey, I wanted to explore the questions I was asking myself:

  • How do we find a "Table of Grace" when we are in exile?

  • What does God do with the "shattered mirrors" of our plans?

  • How can we, like the scribe Baruch, find the strength to keep writing when we are weary?

A Peer on the Journey

This book isn't a dry, academic study. It’s a daily conversation. I have spent two years walking through these verses in the NIV, looking for the heart of a God who says that even in the uprooting, He is planning a future and a hope.

I’m so excited to finally share these 171 pages with you. Whether you are currently on a narrow road or you are just looking for a bit of "Real Talk" about faith in difficult times, I hope these daily reflections bring you the same peace they brought me.

The journey begins soon. I’ve just hit "publish" on the softcover edition, and I can't wait to hear how these words land in your own "secret place" of reflection.
