Peace in the Commute
The Reflection: For many of us, the commute is the "in-between" space. It’s the buffer between the demands of home and the pressures of the workplace. Whether you are sitting in gridlock, staring out a train window, or gripping the steering wheel in the rain, it often feels like wasted time—a hurdle to be cleared.
But what if the commute isn’t an interruption? What if it’s an invitation?
In the quiet (or the noise) of the journey, we are forced to be still in a way the rest of our day doesn't allow. When the light turns red and our progress stops, we have a choice: we can let our blood pressure rise, or we can recognize that we are not the ones in control. The road is a training ground for peace. It’s a place to transition from "doing" to "being," laying down the stress of the office before walking through our front door, or handing over the worries of home before we start our shift.
The Key Verse:
"The Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore." — Psalm 121:8
The "Heart Work" Action Step: Tomorrow, turn off the radio or the podcast for just five minutes of your drive. Use that silence to consciously "hand over" your day. If you’re heading to work, ask for a spirit of excellence. If you’re heading home, ask for the grace to be fully present with your family. Let the dashboard be your altar.
The Closing Prayer: "Lord, thank You for being the God of the journey, not just the destination. As I travel today, settle my restless heart. Protect me on the road, and help me to see every red light as a moment to breathe and remember that You are in control of my path. Amen."
